Approximately 9” H x 5” W x 4” D. Poplar, maple burl, ink, dye, dry pigment, spray acrylic (gloss and matte).

This piece was inspired by the asteroid/comet known as 1I/2017 U1 ‘Oumuamua. ‘Oumuamua was discovered in 2017 when it was already on its way out of our solar system.  It was the first such body known to have originated around another star.

The texture and color were built up in layers of ink, dye and dry pigment, using sprayed acrylic to adhere the pigment. Abrasion of the upper layers to partially reveal the ones beneath gives the weathered surface. (Collection of the artist.)
